Dear consumers, please do not eat healthy

I read this article today titled:Dear American Consumers: Please don’t start eating healthfully. Sincerely, the Food IndustryScientific American

I laughed and a became sad at the same time.

I laughed because the title is funny and I liked how the author wrote in the voice of the American Food System.

I became sad because of how true the whole article is. We have been trained to think that unhealthy, non-nutritious and very unsustainable food is delicious and tasty. We have been trained to become addicted to sugar, fat and salt. I cringe when I see what people eat as snacks, see what people eat for lunch, see the line out the door at fast food restaurants, see the marketing gimecks on processed foods, and hear that people consume sugar and fat free altered foods.

Folks this food movement is not a “trend” it is a movement in the right direction. We have finally seen that our food chain and our food choices is slowly killing us.

Please do not get discouraged in trying to change your food choices, you will start enjoying whole and real foods. It might come slowly and you may backtrack and reach for chemicals and processed food, but that is OK. You are making a change in the right direction.

The last several times I had microwaveable and bagged popcorn I had the worst stomach ache and felt greasy. This made me remember when my family and I made popcorn using kernels. Yes you can eat popcorn that is not created in the microwave. I asked my mom to find me a popcorn machine at a garage sale. Because she is a super shopper she got me one.

I cannot wait to make popcorn this week! I am going to flavor it up with not fake butter, but with delicious spices such as cayenne pepper, paprika, curry powder, cinnamon, brown sugar, Dutch cocoa and many others after I do some more research.

Have a healthy Sunday!
