Rizzy has been excessively shedding the past two months. She sheds normally, but now she has gone to extremes! She sits on you and clumps of hair are on your shirt. I’m a bit worried and I don’t know why this has begun. I know it is normal to shed, but I am pretty sure Rizzy can grow another dog with her hair!
I know it’s hard to see from these crappy photos, but trust me there is a lot of hair.
Don’t look at me, I’m just the handsome dog in this picture
Matt thinks because it is hot outside, but it was a lot hotter last year and she did not shed nearly as much. I think she may have some vitamin deficiency because we started giving her dog ‘sausages’ at night so we can feed them and train them at the same time. So maybe we are not giving them enough treats…. They love that concept!
I know brushing every day is good to prevent shedding. I definitely do not brush her every day, but I do brush her more than I did last year. About three months ago I purchased the Zoom Groom which is great!
It is great because one they enjoy being brushed with it (it is a rubber material) and two it does strip away loose hair from them.
I also have the furminator, which is no joke. It works wonders, but the pups do not like it. It is definitely not nearly as soft as the zoom groom. When I went to the website, they had a picture of a cat. Can you even brush a cat???? I feel they would freak out.
That was the hair after one brush!
Here is the total hair after about 30 seconds of brushing her.
I am planning on brushing her at least every other day with the Zoom Groom and once/week with the furminator. Hopefully that helps. If not, I may have to look at her diet and see if she is getting enough. I would think since we did the same switch with Dempsey that he would have the same problem, but he isn’t. Hmmmm
Has anyone had this problem with their dog? What did you do?
It’s OK Rizzy, you are still my best friend!
