Last weekend Matt and I (the pups too) went to Central Virginia and hit up the Brew Trail. I know the coolest thing ever! It definitely helps that it is in beautiful Central Virginia. If you have not been out that way, I highly recommend it.
Our first stop was Barrel House which was our favorite. It was just a microbrewery, not a restaurant which is definitely the best. Their beers were great, it was a quaint and trendy spot and the bartender was so friendly and fun to talk to. Some people don’t care about the service, but to me a bartender with a personality really makes a difference!
The second stop was Devils Backbone, which was a restaurant/brewery and it was PACKED. The temperature was perfect, in the upper 50s and the restaurant is absolutely stunning. Right on the mountain! Their beers however were a disappointment
. Mat and I each got a different flight of beer so we split about 10 samples between us. One of the beers on my flight tasted like water! Soooo light without much taste. I think it was just a bad selection of beer, because we have had their beers before and they were a lot better than the ones that we tried.
The next stop was Wild Wolfe Brewing company, which was great. They even had a small homebrew store with all the ingredients and supplies that you need. The beer was great! We each tried 11 different beers and we really enjoyed all of them. To snack on we ordered their black bean burgers and they were delicious!
Our final stop was Starr Hill. If you live near the DC area, their beers are pretty popular. You see them a lot in the stores. Sadly I did not take any pictures
but this is a brewery (not a restaurant) that is definitely worth checking out.
We also opened our first home brew that weekend, and it wasn’t too bad
