Living with an old man

We got Dempsey when he was around 1 – 2 years old. We have had him for going on three years so that makes him anywhere from 4 – 5 years old. That does not sound old to us, but we have noticed him ‘acting older’.

He always lays around the house like he had such a hard day at work.

He has a hard time jumping on the bed when he used to spring up like it was nothing.

When he has to pee, he has to pee.

He would rather sniff something at the dog park than chase Rizzy around.

Sometimes it gets sad, but I know it is normal and he still is active. However, he does need a bit motivating factor (like food) when he used to just round around like a lunatic.

Bedtime for this old man!

When did 8 o’clock p.m become the new midnight?

When did your dog start ‘acting’ old?

  1. I’m sure Dempsey has slowed down a bit, but he always had that “old man” vibe thing going, even when you first got him. We love when he is here…I know you have had your problems with him, but to me he has always been a nice cross between a loving pet and a guard dog when protection is needed.

    • Yes Dempsey is such a wonderful loving pet! He is the cutest thing! You are very insistent that it is OK for him to run around and try to attack everyone! Dogs should only bite people when themselves or their owners are seriously threatened. House guests that I invite, strangers just walking on the street, kids running around are NOT threats. If a dog is trying to attack someone that is not causing a threat, that dog is probably insecure, fearful and stressed. Not a happy life for a dog!
