We all woke up bright and early to make an early start to Airlie Beach. Airline beach is 12 hours north from the Sunny Coast.
Airlie beach is filled with backpackers and is a very common stop to see the Great Barrier Reef. This girl was very excited!
There isn’t too much scenery on the way up there. It was also raining so I could not get any pretty pictures.
There is one road that goes up to Airlie beach called Bruce Highway and of course it is one lane. At least there are many passing lanes so you do not get stuck behind a slow driver the entire time. Apparently a lot of accidents occur due to fatigued drivers because there were signs like this on the side of the highway.
We got to Airlie beach around 7pm and checked into our hotel. We stayed at the Blue Horizon which was an apartment style. The apartment was really nice! It had a full kitchen, washer & dryer, balcony and two decent sized rooms. The hotel is also walking distance from the downtown areas.
Once we got settled in we headed out to Dinner at a Thai restaurant called Spicy Thai that was right below the hotel. It was Sunday so we were not sure how many places would be open. After dinner we went back to the hotel excited for our first day at Airlie beach.
