This Saturday Matt and I went to the Port City Brewing Company in Alexandria VA. We have had their beer several times at other beer festivals and bars which we liked so we were anxious to see where it is all made!
When we first got there it was packed. It wasn’t too much of a surprise considering it was 3pm on a Saturday. Matt and I each did a full tasting which consisted of 6 beers.
The first beer was the Optimal Wit. This is really good and refreshing and is a Belgium style wit.
I did not realize that Matt was taking the picture (hence me looking not at the camera). He then commented on my shoes and said they were ‘stupid’.
I think he is stupid.
Next up was the Essential Pale Ale. It was good, not the best pale ale though.
Then was the Monumental IPA. This I enjoyed as well since IPA is one of my favorite kinds of beer. Love the hops!
Then we tasted the Revival with is a limited edition porter. It is made from Oysters from the War Shore Oyster company. Pretty cool! I thought this beer was OK, I am very picky when it comes to everything porter beer. Matt liked it a lot.
Next up was the Porter. Another dark and robust beer. I did not have this one, the brewery was about to close and I did not want to chug it. Matt was able to keep up and enjoyed it.
I know I said they gave us six beers, but looking at their website, I only recognize 5 of them. My one complaint about the brewery is they did not have their beers listed where it was easy to see them. One of my favorite places on Long Island, Blue Point Brewery lists very clearly all their beers with a really nice description of each of them. It is also a little bit far from us (30 minutes). It took us much longer today because there was about 15,000 girls on the National Mall today because of a Girl Scout trip. I wish I could join
During our tasting we went into the actual place where they brew the beer. I love to see the huge casks.
I did not realize that Port City Brewing Company has only been open 1 year. Happy Anniversary Port City!
After the tasting we went to Old Town Alexandria which is a very cute town. We grabbed a small appetizer from the cutest wine bar called Grape and Bean. I will definitely be checking out this place again!
Hope you all had a great Saturday!

Stupid shoes???? You have GOT to be kidding. Those are so adorable. LOVE THEM. The man obviously has no taste.
The tasting sounds awesome – and the first beer sounds like a winner! I love events like that – sounds like it’s time to go to the brewery by my house on one of the nights they drag out the new seasonal beers!
It is the best to live near a brewery!
So funny, we actually went to port city on Sunday! Too bad we missed you!
