I love greek yogurt (if you did not realize by the title).
It is super delicious and nutritious. Greek Yogurt is an excellent source of protein and probiotics. My favorite brand is FAGE. Many greek yogurt brands only have fat free brands available and I enjoy yogurt made with 2%. The reason I favor the 2% over fat free is because I like to have fat in my breakfast. Fat keeps you satiated throughout the day. Personally I feel a lot better when I have a higher fat meal for breakfast than a lower fat one. I am able to concentrate better and do not have cravings the entire time up until lunch. I used to add nuts to my yogurt (which is such a healthy addition) however, I think I am developing a mild nut intolerance so I have not been eating them lately. Nuts are a wonderful source of fat, and if I was adding them to my yogurt, then I probably would switch to the fat free brand.
I am also not a huge fan of flavored yogurt. Flavored yogurt contains a lot of sugar, especially if you purchase a fat free brand. Yoplait light contains 15 grams of sugar per single serving contain. Many brands like Dannon light n’ fit make yogurts with splenda, but those taste like chalk (in my opinion) and leave me starving after 30 minutes or so.
2% FAGE has 20 grams of protein, only 8 grams of sugar and 20% of the RDA for calcium per 7 ounces ! I love you bones!
Plain yogurt does take time to get used to as it is pretty sour. I am still not a fan of it solo. So why do I buy it? So I have control over how much sugar is in it rather than getting it pre-sweetened. If I am eating yogurt as a snack I like to add either honey or frozen fruit. If you leave the frozen yogurt for twenty minutes or so, the fruit will melt and will create a delicious and healthy juice.
I eat plain yogurt 5x/week as part of my overnight oats recipe. For overnight oats I mix rolled oats, soy milk, plain yogurt, cinnamon and fruit (usually berries and bananas). The reason they are called overnight is that if you make them at night, the oats will absorb all the liquid and be ready for breakfast in the morning!
Plain yogurt makes a great addition to smoothies, especially since smoothies usually contain a lot of fruit.
Plain yogurt also makes a wonderful pancake topping!
