So this may not look much like a new site, but it is! Notice no .wordpress after my URL? I have my own domain, and I am self hosted, woot woot! Please let me know if you run into any issues like slowness or broken links (I am sure you will). I am not 100% happy with my layout yet, but I wanted to get the show on the road sooner or later, and I do not know how much I will get done this week with my site. Also if you have any suggestions or experience with programming, please let me know!
So as I was purchasing my new host, I was also cooking up some pizza.
Leek and Zucchini pizza
If you are new to my blog I am obsessed with this frozen pizza dough.
It is delicious and it rolls out easy. i have tried looking online for this brand but I can’t find it. I also looked on the box for the brand name and I could not find it. I think this pizza is in the mafia. I once tried to make my own pizza dough, but it did not come out well. I know that is no excuse, practice makes perfect!
One thing I did differently to this pizza than others is that I did not use any cheese, and I brushed (or spooned since I do not have a pastry brush) some olive oil on top of the rolled out dough and sprinkled some chives.
Then I cut up the leeks into small pieces
And added them to a heated skillet with olive oil and sliced zucchini for 6 minutes. I let them cooked them a little bit longer than usual for the zucchini to be browned.
Then I baked it in the oven at 500 degrees for twenty minutes. I used my pizza stone to get a delicious crispy crust. If you are using a pizza stone, please learn from my mistakes!
So let’s talk Leeks.
Leeks are part of the allium family. Say what?! This is the same vegetable family as garlic, onions, scallions and chives. Leeks are not as strong as onions and have more of a sweet flavor, they also do not make you cry! Allium vegetables contain many many compounds. Compounds = vitamins and minerals. I know, why could they have not just said vitamins and minerals? Anyhoo… The “compounds” that allium vegetables consist of includes phosphorus, potassium, sulphur and zinc; moderate measures of selenium and vitamins A and C; and lesser amounts of calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, manganese and B-vitamins and Allicin (a sulphur compound). Allicin is a whole other wonderful compound that contains flavianoids and other antioxidants, essential oils and fatty acids, amino acids and pectin. Phew! Obviously we do not need to know all of this but to summarize due to all these “compounds” leeks aid as an anti-coagulant (blood thinner), anti-oxidant and anti-microbial agent. O is my stomach happy tonight and my taste buds!
